What is performance coaching?
Sir John Whitmore, author of Coaching for Performance, defined performance coaching as, “Unlocking a person’s potential to maximise their own performance.”
In our professional lives, coaching supports and guides individuals and teams to create long-lasting, positive results. Productivity skyrockets, morale is boosted, and employees look forward to coming to work!

Personal performance coaching helps us eliminate obstacles, and focus on reaching our potential so that we can become who we were meant to be.
Jouta is a leader in helping individuals, teams, and organizations manage change, fulfill their potential, achieve their goals and enhance their performance.
How to choose a coach
When choosing a coach for yourself or your organization, the International Coaching Federation (ICF) offers the following advice:
- Know the goals or objectives you want to achieve through working with a coach (we call this your “vision”)
- Interview three coaches before deciding on one (ask about their experience, qualifications, skills, and references)
- Ask if they have been accredited by the ICF (meaning they have received coach-specific training, been practicing for a designated number of hours and been coached by a Mentor Coach)
- Ultimately choose someone who feels right to you

Leadership Coaching
Robert Hargrove wrote in his book, Masterful Coaching, “In order to reinvent an organization, leaders must first reinvent themselves.”
Reinvention may involve both personal growth and performance coaching, and may focus not only on you as the individual but also on your organization.
An understanding of where your organization wants to go will ultimately direct you to the type of leadership you need.
Group performance coaching
Performance coaching for small groups brings together like-minded people with a commitment to creating positive change and supporting one another through that change.
Your coach helps teach self-leadership, and fosters self-growth, while providing a safe environment in which members of the group can express their thoughts and feelings.
We call this unique coaching Kokoro(e) (a Japanese word for heart, spirit and mind + knowledge) and it’s an ideal setting for team building.
Kokoro(e) is especially effective for succession planning and for companies going through large changes such as restructuring or rapid growth.
“I highly recommend and value Cori as a coach and mentor. She’s professional, experienced, genuine, funny, and spiritual and uses the right blend of logic and intuition. Her approach is very cool and I don’t know anyone who has worked with her who hasn’t gotten something significant out of it.”
Sheri Kashman (former Kokoro(e) participant and now a Jouta employee!)
Individual performance coaching
One-on-one performance coaching focuses on improving your performance in a particular target area (be it your personal performance or that of your organization).
Your coach guides you to draw on what you already know about yourself, provides you with insight and expertise and then helps you produce results by successfully combining the two.
“Cori helped bring clarity and helped me see the natural order for my business. I am truly humbled by our meeting and the outcome.”
